While just 20 minutes from downtown Houston, Sugar Land feels a world away. A high concentration of attractions are located within a short drive or walk from each other inside the city limits, including over 1,200 acres of parkland, a world-class baseball park, museums, and the Smart Financial Centre. With a mix of cultures, delicious food, and exciting events, there’s always something happening.
Sugar Land, Texas, was founded as a sugar plantation in the mid 19th century. The city gets its name from the Imperial Sugar Company, which played a significant role in its development. Sugar Land was officially incorporated as a city on December 29, 1959.
The Imperial Sugar Company’s refinery, built in 1896 was one of the oldest continuously operating refineries in the United States until it closed in 2003.
Sugar Land is one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas with a population of over 108,000, and is one of the most culturally diverse areas in Texas. Industries in the area range from healthcare to energy. It is home to the University of Houston at Sugar Land, has a Texas State Technical College campus providing technical and vocational education, and has several top-rated public and private schools, making it an attractive place for families.
The city boasts over 1,200 acres of parkland and 27 parks. Sugar Land Memorial Park features a large lake, hiking trails, and a veterans memorial. Brazos River Park offers scenic views and outdoor activities along the Brazos River. Cullinan Park is a peaceful place to experience the outdoors on it’s scenic overlook of White Lake or along it’s many trails.



Constellation Field is a state of the art ballpark that seats 7,500 and is the home of the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, the official Triple-A Minor League baseball affiliate of the Houston Astros.
Smart Financial Centre is a concert hall owned by the city government of Sugar Land and is the only indoor live performance venue of it’s kind in the Greater Houston area.
The nearby George Ranch Historical Park, a 20,000 acre working ranch, is an authentic Texas experience, offering a unique glimpse into the rich tapestry of Texas history.
