Scotty Swingler is an energetic leader, dynamic communicator, and seasoned student pastor who came to Sugar Land Baptist Church in March 2021 from First Baptist Church of El Campo. He is a graduate of Baylor University (B.A. Communications) and George W. Truett Theological Seminary (M.Div) and the recipient of Truett’s 2019 Robert Jackson Robinson Award for Outstanding Preaching. Scotty has served in local church ministry since 2013, including stints as associate pastor, youth pastor, worship leader, media director, and supply preacher. He’s been invited to preach at youth, college, and young adult events across Texas, Oklahoma, and Georgia. He’s most passionate about people; he loves hearing others’ stories, exploring common experiences, and digging into the Gospel together. Scotty believes that, without question, following Jesus is the pathway to the best life, and desires to encourage Sugar Land’s students to be disciples of Jesus in every area of their lives.

In June 2020, Scotty married the love of his life, Ambree, and they live together in Sugar Land with Cash, their Boykin Spaniel. In his spare time Scotty covers Baylor football for 247Sports, and he loves crafting and smoking Texas barbeque. He also enjoys coffee, Star Wars and the MCU, traveling, hiking, writing, watching football or soccer, playing guitar, and hanging out with friends. His favorite books are Dune and The Lord of the Rings, and his favorite Sonic drink is a frozen strawberry lemonade.
